  1. Q&A.
  2. Q1: Please explain what characteristics DTS expect from the incoming students, and   what capabilities DTS wish to develop?

Answer:

Proactive and courageous.

With global competitive in maritime technology, transportation and distribution professionalism, creative, executive and social-caring capabilities.

  1. Q2:        What are the career spectrum and development for DTS alumni?

Answer:

Governmental employee in civil services in maritime, ground and air areas (National-level and special examinations). And DTS employs several professional faculty members for career development.

Career in industry includes:

(1) Shipping services and maritime technology.

(2) Aviation industry such as pilots, flight attendants and ground staff.

(3) Third-party logistics industry such as warehousing and distribution.

(4) Enterprise Supply Chain Management / Operations Management.

(5) Transportation Industry Planning / Transportation Engineer.

(6) Big Data and Advanced IT Engineer.

  1. Q3:        What kind of training will DTS have for the students? What challenges will students face during learning? What kind of knowledge does DTS expect students to know before joining DTS, or how to prepare?

Answer:

In addition to develop the professional competence during classes, DTS has enormous resources and opportunities for students to visit the industry and enterprise. Industrial cooperation (internship) courses or open for the junior students to experience the gap between industry and academic communities.

Challenges:

(1) Time management - how to allocate time and utilize your time.

(2) Interpersonal relationship and communication.

(3) No standard answer -- from multiple choices to answer questions.

Graduates of DTS are awarded with a bachelor's degree in engineering, BS/B. Eng. (not BA/BBA), but the course is between engineering and business, and will not be too "hard science".

Our courses are also good for students from social sciences. It is recommended to browse the DTS webpage first.

  1. Q4. Does DTS provides the opportunity with different expertise? Or provide financial aid, scholarships, or study abroad, etc.?

Answer:

DTS now recognizes and approves the credits from other departments, students are also encouraged to take the courses from other schools through the University System of Taipei, USTP (free of charge). In addition to the financial aid and scholarships from NTOU, the college also offers a special financial aid -- a food vouchers, instead of money for those needed. In addition, faculty from the department voluntarily provides some financial aid for the students. The department also sponsorship for exchange students, with great English proficiency and international trade capability. Students are encouraged to apply for the scholarships by the school or the Ministry of Education to study abroad (free of credit fees). In recent years, many DTS students applied for short-term (less than 2 months) and long-term (more than 4 months) to study abroad with scholarships.

  1. Q5: The mission of DTS is to cultivate the transportation engineering professionals needed to integrate maritime technology, transportation and distribution, so as to strengthen the international competitiveness of Taiwan's shipping management plan. What advice would you have for those prospective students? Or could you further reiterate the above statement? Or further introduce the characteristics and advantages of DTS?

Answer:

Please check the DTS website to see if you are interested in the goals, courses & curriculum, faculty and research, teaching areas, resources and centers, etc. Taiwan is an isolated island and surrounded by the oceans, therefore we are very dependent on international trading and commerce. That is to say, lots of career opportunities about transportation and shipping in maritime and air. Other transportation departments from other Universities or Colleges only focus ground/land transportation, and DTS owns many expertise faculty in maritime, ground and air areas, which is of great help for future career development.

  1. Q6: How do you interpret the "grades and performance"? If student fails one subject and how would you think? And would you inquire the student personal?

Answer:

The grades vary from schools and are usually more accurate in rankings. If there are particularly bad grades, you might need to propose a statement. For example, once a student who was studying abroad because his parent was stationed overseas, his Chinese is not good, but he shows his effort and make a big progress.

  1. Q7: What do you expect the autobiography from your students? And what are the common errors and mistakes you would like to remind the prospective students?

Answer:

We prefer precise and smooth writings for an autobiography, and focus on the critical living experience, combined with the roadmap will be a plus for review. It is also great to have self-awareness comments. Please avoid the following:

1. Running-sentence style: Starting from my elementary school, how to learn in middle school, how is my first year in middle school...

2. Redundancy in the review documents: ie. I have a father, a mother...

3. Cut and paste from the internet: illogical, non-sense, and no points.

  1. Q8: From your past experiences of review the applicants' documents, what do you recommend for the students and parents to avoid? And what are impressive?

Answer:

Current model is online review. Therefore, when you convert your documents into PDF format, please double check the size of each page before uploading the documents. Please also avoid the following:

1. Spend too much time on the art design, but without substantial contents.

2. informal or casual format.

3. Same documents for different departments.
